Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract An opportunity is available for a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to provide essential services in a school setting. This part-time, contract position focuses on empowering students with visual impairments by developing their orientation and mobility skills to enhance independence and safety.
Key Qualifications:
Licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) in Virginia Proven experience working with students in an educational environment Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with educators, families, and support staff Ability to develop and implement individualized mobility plans tailored to student needs Commitment to in-person engagement and student-centered services Responsibilities include: Assessing students' orientation and mobility needs in a school setting Delivering direct, in-person instruction to students to improve travel skills Collaborating with school staff and families to integrate mobility strategies into daily routines Monitoring student progress and adapting plans as necessary Ensuring all services comply with state licensing and educational guidelines Benefits of this role: Part-time schedule providing flexibility Meaningful work impacting student independence and confidence Contract position allowing focused professional engagement This position requires in-person participation to deliver hands-on support effectively.
