GED Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Under specific direction follows the treatment plans created by Occupational or Physical Therapists. Assists the therapists with set up, performance of or clean up related to: exercise, modalities, splint fabrication, daily living skills and other patient care activities as assigned. Takes inventory of equipment, orders supplies and linens, cleans equipment, and keeps participant areas clean. May perform clerical duties as needed.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Assists with participant care activities specifically determined and under the direction of the Occupational or Physical Therapist, including, but not limited to the following modalities: ultrasound, phonophoresis, traction, hot packs, ice packs, ice massage, e-stim, paraffin bath and fluidotherapy. Sets up and assists therapy with daily living/functional activities, and muscle strengthening exercise, splint fabrication, etc. as determined by the therapist. Notifies therapists of changes in the participant's condition or other concerns pertinent to treatment. Keeps participant treatment areas neat, clean and safe. Cleans all therapy equipment regularly. Prepares all areas for treatment, assures that treatment supplies and equipment are available for participant use, assist in participant escort, and cleans the treatment area after therapy is completed (including whirlpools and therapeutic pool). Works with the Rehabilitation Staff to identify supply inventory levels, and may assume responsibility for ordering to maintain parity levels. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in departmental in-service programs. Completes mandatory departmental competency program successfully. Performs clerical duties when needed, and other related duties as assigned. Maintains participant confidentiality.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Completion of a high school Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in a health care setting that involves patient care. Certification as a rehabilitation technician or some related field is desired. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience with frail and elderly population. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. One (1) to three (3) months of on the job training and completion of departmental competencies is required. Ongoing competency testing is required. Must be able to constantly exercise, lift patients, push wheelchairs and move equipment. Must meet standardized set of competencies approved by CMS before working independently. Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standard and behaviors. Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services. WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a patient care setting with potential exposure to communicable disease. Limited noise, temperature fluctuation and dust are possible. Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact.
