Job Description
Job Summary As a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS), you will evaluate, train, and assist clients in regaining or maintaining their driving independence. You will perform clinical and behind-the-wheel assessments to determine fitness-to-drive, recommend adaptive equipment, and provide specialized training.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Evaluations:
Conduct in-office assessments of vision, cognition, and motor performance.Behind-the-Wheel Assessments:
Perform on-road assessments of driving skills to determine safety and identify equipment and/or training needs.Treatment Planning:
Develop and implement customized driving rehabilitation plans.Adaptive Equipment:
Recommend and train clients on adaptive driving equipment (e.g., hand controls, left foot accelerators, steering devices).Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain detailed client records, including evaluations, progress notes, and medical recommendations in compliance with state regulations.Collaboration:
Coordinate with physicians, state licensing agencies, funding agencies, and mobility equipment dealers to ensure a seamless rehabilitation process.Confidentiality:
Adhere to HIPAA standards and ADED Code of Ethics.Required Qualifications Certification:
Active Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) credential from ADED. Will also consider applicants with Driver Rehabilitation Professional (DRP) credential through ADED.Education:
Degree in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant, or a related healthcare field.Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of direct experience providing driver rehabilitation services.Licensure:
Current certification as a driving instructor in the State of Michigan or another state. Current licensure in a rehabilitation field (e.g., OT, PT, OTA, PTA) or a driving instructor with an extensive history in providing driver rehabilitation services. Preferred Skills Proficiency in evaluating/training clients with spinal cord injuries, stroke, progressive cognitive conditions, physical impairments, autism spectrum disorder, learning differences, and vision challenges Knowledge of vehicle modifications and adaptive equipment Knowledge of State of Michigan licensing standards Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills and ability to self-manage client caseload Experience with PracticeQ electronic medical records software Proficiency in Microsoft 365 softwareJob Types:
