Job Description

The Rehabilitation Therapy Aide provides support to the Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) departments by assisting with patient related tasks as directed by licensed therapists. This role includes transporting patients, maintaining inventory and supplies, ensuring treatment areas are clean and orderly, providing secretarial support, assisting with scheduling, and monitoring chart compliance in alignment with departmental protocols and Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) requirements. The Therapy Aide may work in both inpatient and outpatient settings and may occasionally be required to participate in weekend rotations to support department operations.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required. • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) required within three (3) months of hire
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in patient care tasks as directed by licensed therapists or therapy assistants, supporting safe and effective treatment sessions. Transport patients as needed to and from therapy areas, ensuring safety and comfort. Clean, sanitize, and organize treatment rooms, gym areas, and therapy equipment promptly to promote smooth patient flow. Maintain inventory of linens, supplies, and equipment; ensure treatment areas and stock rooms are organized and adequately stocked. Monitor and document Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) requirements and program protocols accurately in the electronic medical record (EHR). Assist with scheduling and tracking the daily therapy calendar, reserving treatment rooms for evaluations and therapy sessions as needed. Support prompt turnover of treatment spaces between sessions to optimize efficiency and patient care. Applies appropriate infection control, safety, and equipment protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, departmental projects, and hospital committees to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Perform additional duties as assigned to support therapists, therapy assistants, and departmental goals.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to follow directions from licensed therapists and therapy assistants to support patient care safely and effectively. Ability to use electronic health records (EHR) for accurate documentation of Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and maintenance program protocols. Ability to safely transport patients, assist with mobility, and perform cleaning or setup tasks. Ability to maintain a clean, orderly treatment areas, equipment, and supply inventory. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support patient care and outcomes. Skilled in time management and multitasking to support scheduling, prompt room turnover, and efficient workflow in the therapy department.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and reach for extended periods during the shift. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull patients, therapy equipment, and supplies, typically up to 50 pounds, sometimes with assistance. Manual dexterity needed for handling therapy equipment, assistive devices, and patient support tools. Work may involve repetitive motions, such as moving equipment, assisting patients, or performing therapeutic exercises. Ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone. Requires stamina and mobility to safely assist patients with ambulation, transfers, and exercises. Must be able to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
