Job Description

Job Description The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, invitesapplications for afull-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as theAssistant ProgramDirector and core faculty member for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Residential Program. The OTD program has asustained record ofexcellence in education, research, leadership, and service. Working in a new state-of-the-art teaching facility and aworld-class teachinghospital, MUSC students engage in interprofessional groups that mirror the world beyond the classrooms. The OTD programis fully accreditedby ACOTE and is ranked 8th in the nation for OT programs by the U.S. News and World Report. The faculty have receivednumerous awards andaccolades for teaching excellence and innovative curricular design at the local, regional, and national levels.

Post-professionaleducational opportunities also exist through a post-professional OTD and a Ph.D. in Health and Rehabilitation Science. As part of thegreater MUSC enterprise, the Division of OT is integral to the state's only academic health sciences center known for itsexcellence ininterprofessional education. In addition, the College of Health Professions (CHP) is ranked 11th in the nation in total NIHfunding amongSchools of Allied Health & Health Professions. OT faculty and students collaborate with a broad range of educators,clinicians, andresearchers across the state, and several faculty hold dual appointments in CHP and other MUSC Departments. Through itsstrong history,outstanding record of educating occupational therapists, and dedication to interprofessional education and research, theDivision of OT ispoised to advance the Department's and the College's overall goal of achieving national distinction in education,research, leadership, andservice. The successful faculty candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activitieswithin the OTD program,develop a scholarly agenda, and participate in community and professional service appropriate for the faculty rank.

Combinations of areas ofclinical expertise are welcome, and we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives. Candidates from allclinical and teachingbackgrounds relevant to rehabilitation will be fully considered. Candidates for Associate Professor and Professor musthave a proven trackrecord of scholarship, graduate student advising, and teaching at the Doctoral level consistent with MUSC-rankedfaculty. Evidence ofleadership experience in an academic setting is preferred. The final rank and salary of the successful candidate willbe commensurate withexperience. The successful candidate will:
Have or must beeligible for licensure in SouthCarolina Have a minimum of six years of previous faculty experience. Have a terminalacademic doctorate in a disciplineappropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.

D., DSc, etc.) Understand higher educationand contemporary clinical practiceappropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education; knowledge of legislative,regulatory, legal, and practice issuesaffecting didactic coursework, capstone and fieldwork, and the profession. Understand highereducation and contemporary clinicalpractice appropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education; knowledge oflegislative, regulatory, legal, and practiceissues affecting didactic coursework, capstone and fieldwork, and the profession. Havean active scholarly agenda. Engagein professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
Essential Tasks and Functions:
Thefaculty member must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be ableto explain and demonstrate that the faculty membercan perform the job's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation,using some other combination of knowledge, skills, andabilities. Administrative Responsibilities Oversight of the OTD curriculum and curriculumrevisions/modifications. They will prepare all curriculum forms (minor and subsequentchanges) and submit them to the residential programdirector, who serves as the Division Director (DD), for final approval. They will assureall information, curricula, publications, andwebsite information is up to date. They will assist the DD in planning and facilitatingfaculty retreats focused on curriculumchanges/modifications and the OT Division's strategic plans. Collaborate with theHybrid OTD program leadership toensure the curriculum meets accreditation standards and achieves overall program goals and expectedoutcomes. Provideresidential faculty mentorship as needed. They will support the Professional Development Committee(comprised of faculty) when studentissues arise and bring recommendations to the residential program director for final approval. Represent the OTDResidential Program to MUSC, the community, and the occupational therapy profession. Attend program,division, college, and national-levelleadership meetings when the residential program director/DD is unavailable. Provide direct support to the DD for allexternal (ACOTE, NBCOT) and internal (University, College, Department, and Division) reports.

This includes annual reports, semi-annualreports, interim reports, and reaccreditation self-study. Teaching andEducation Responsibilities Teach courses as agreed upon with the OTD Division and with the workloads aligned with thepolicies in the faculty handbook. Demonstrate contemporary knowledge and skill/expertise in the areas of assignedteaching. Communicate effectively andprofessionally, in writing and orally, both in person and online. Service Responsibilities Basedon the rank status of the faculty member, service should be at least at the state,national, or international level. All

facultywill participate in Program/Division and Departmental service. Scholarship Responsibilities Occupational Therapy faculty regularly collaborate with educators in other MUSCdepartments and colleges. Substantial resources areavailable to support the successful applicant's line of research.
