Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated and creative Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our student support team. In this role, you will work directly with students from Preschool through 5th Grade to help them overcome barriers to learning. You will implement therapeutic interventions that improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, and self-regulation, ensuring every child can fully participate in the classroom, on the playground, and in school life.- Key Responsibilities
Direct Intervention:
Provide individual and group therapy sessions as outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.Skill Development:
Target foundational skills including handwriting, scissor skills, visual-motor integration, and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like zipping coats or opening lunch containers.Sensory Support:
Implement "sensory diets" and classroom movement breaks to help students maintain a "ready-to-learn" state.Collaboration:
Work closely with the supervising OTR/L to adjust treatment plans and attend IEP meetings to report on student progress.Consultation:
Partner with classroom teachers to suggest environmental modifications (e.g., adaptive seating, slant boards) and inclusive strategies.Documentation:
Maintain accurate, timely logs of services provided and collect data on student goals for quarterly progress reports.- Qualifications & Skills
Licensure:
Valid State License/Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.Certification:
NBCOT certification (C)Experience:
Prior experience in a pediatric or school-based setting is highly preferred.Specialized Knowledge:
Familiarity with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), sensory processing disorders, and assistive technology.Soft Skills:
A "student-first" heart, the ability to pivot when a lesson doesn't go as planned, and excellent communication skills with parents and staff.- Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at "student level" (sitting on the floor, kneeling, or at small desks).
- Ability to lift/transfer up to 40 lbs if working with students with physical disabilities.
- Stamina to navigate a large elementary campus and playground environment.
