Position Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct occupational therapy services to residents under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA assists residents in improving their ability to perform daily living activities, regain functional independence, and enhance overall quality of life. This role plays a key part in delivering compassionate, resident-centered care in the skilled nursing setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide occupational therapy treatments as outlined in the resident's plan of care under the direction of the Occupational Therapist. Assist residents with improving activities of daily living (ADLs), including dressing, bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility. Implement therapeutic exercises and activities to improve strength, coordination, range of motion, and fine motor skills. Observe and document resident responses to treatment and report progress or concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist. Assist in modifying treatment interventions based on resident performance and clinical direction. Educate residents, families, and caregivers on therapy goals, home exercise programs, and adaptive equipment. Collaborate with nursing, therapy staff, and interdisciplinary team members regarding resident progress. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation according to Medicare, Medicaid, and facility guidelines. Participate in care plan meetings and discharge planning as needed. Follow all facility policies, infection control procedures, and safety standards.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Current state licensure/certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, or geriatric rehabilitation preferred. Knowledge of Medicare Part A, Part B, PDPM, and therapy documentation requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. All inquiries will be held confidential
