Job Description

Summary:
Plans, organizes, directs or carries out a program of therapeutic group activities which are designed to assess functional/cognitive skills of patients, improve patients' socialization and adaptive skills, help patients adapt to the environment, and enhance patients' adjustment to discharge to the community. Provides role as patient advocate through his/her own role modeling of standards of performance by communicating and meeting patients' needs for service. Works in collaboration with unit staff and the inter-disciplinary team to coordinate and implement the group programming in order to meet the treatment needs of patients. Screens patients for needs and administers screening and assessments as directed by Supervisor.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Licensure:
Graduate from an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Must also be registered and eligible in the State of Rhode Island.
Experience:
Minimum of one-year experience in a psychiatric occupational therapy setting. Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or
Safety Requirements :
Clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated area. Exposed daily to disagreeable odors, sights of bodily wastes and contaminated equipment. May be exposed to infectious diseases and/or bodily harm from combative patients. Required to carry, push, pull equipment as well as turn, transfer, and assist patients with ADLs and/or therapeutic exercise. Follows safety regulations, Infection Control policies, and Universal Precautions.
