Job Summary The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides vital rehabilitative services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR). In this role, you will assist patients in achieving functional goals related to daily living and mobility. You will support treatment planning by implementing prescribed therapeutic interventions, observing patient progress, and ensuring continuity of care within an inpatient hospital setting.
Essential Functions Clinical Care:
Administer occupational therapy treatment programs as directed by the supervising OTR in accordance with individualized patient care plans.
Patient Monitoring:
Observe patient response to rehabilitation, report changes in condition, and suggest treatment modifications.
Therapy Sessions:
Lead group or individual activity-based therapy sessions to support or maintain physical function.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate medical records of treatments and progress; ensure all notes are co-signed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Collaboration:
Maintain effective communication with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including nursing and therapy staff.
Safety:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe treatment environment; adhere to all infection control and safety protocols.
Technical Proficiency:
Utilize electronic health records (EHR) and therapy documentation software efficiently. Qualifications Experience (Required): 0-1 years of experience in healthcare working with adults, geriatrics, or individuals with physical disabilities. Experience (Preferred): 1-2 years of clinical experience in an inpatient, outpatient, or skilled nursing setting. License/Certification (Required): Current COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) license in the state of Texas. BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep understanding of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and assistive devices. Strong ability to follow clinical treatment plans and document patient data accurately. Excellent collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary medical environment. Commitment to patient safety and age-appropriate care.
