Growth opportunities Relaxed atmosphere Work hours: up to 40 hours/week An optometric assistant , or optical assistant , is a person who assist the optometrist in both clinical and administrative duties related to vision care service delivery. Their primary role is to help customers/patients choose eyeglass frames and appropriate lens treatments. This is a growing field as more people are needing corrective eyewear as the population is aging and the rates of chronic conditions are increasing. Individuals who desire to work in medical settings and have strong customer service skills and fashion sense may enjoy this career.
Key Functions/Responsibilities:
Assist doctor with patient pretesting. Help patients with optical selections and dispensing. Make orders and maintain inventories. Prepare patient insurance authorizations and process claims. Maintain detailed, accurate and complete patient medical records. Answer phones, schedule appointments and other office duties. Handle cash and process payments.
Other Responsibilities :
Must have strong computer and typing skills to handle various electronic files and insurance matters. Must be able to multi-task and be attentive to details. Must have strong work ethics and professionalism. Sales and customer service experience is preferred. Desire to pursue career with company as optician is a plus
Qualifications:
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Written and oral fluency in English required. Proficiency in computer skills and use of computer software programs required (including but not limited to MS Office, Internet, use of other online applications). Good typing skills (minimum of 35 wpm). Good communication skills. Great professional interpersonal skills, including good listening, using appropriate language and following through directions. Experience in sales or in-person customer service preferred. Must be self-initiator and be able to multitask. Must show evidence of dependability and strong work ethic. Must have valid California driver's license, car insurance, and independent mode of transportation.
