Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric Technician, where your enthusiasm and attention to detail will play a vital role in delivering exceptional eye care services. In this energetic position, you will support optometrists by preparing patients, conducting preliminary assessments, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Duties Assist patients with check-in procedures, including intake forms and updating medical histories while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support comprehensive eye examinations. Prepare patients for exams by conducting preliminary tests like refraction assessments, visual acuity tests, and ocular motility evaluations using optical and ophthalmic equipment. Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment. Support the optometrist during examinations by handling medical records, updating electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms, and documenting findings accurately. Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and assisting with retail sales of eyewear and accessories. Perform inventory management of optical supplies and assist in retail math calculations for sales transactions. Requirements Prior experience in medical office settings or clinic environments is highly preferred, especially within ophthalmology or optometry practices. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and ophthalmic procedures to effectively assist during exams. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing medical records efficiently. Ability to take accurate vital signs and perform intake assessments with professionalism and compassion. Retail sales experience combined with excellent customer service skills to enhance patient experience at the front desk. Basic understanding of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmology services is a plus. Knowledge of pediatric care (pediatrics) is beneficial for supporting diverse patient needs in a family-friendly clinic environment.
