Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in San Dimas, CA, requiring regular travel to local nursing homes. As an Optometric Assistant / Technician, you will play a crucial role in both back-office preparation and hands-on clinical assistance in a mobile healthcare environment.
Primary Duties Insurance & Eligibility:
Work closely with the office team to verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to build service dates for nursing home visits.
Chart & Paperwork Prep:
Create, update, and organize comprehensive patient records, ensuring all chart preparation is accurate and valid prior to clinic days.
On-Site Coordination:
Travel to scheduled nursing homes ahead of the doctor to set up mobile optometric equipment and coordinate workflow with facility staff.
Clinical Assistance:
Assist the Optometrist with daily clinical functions and patient care within the nursing home environment.
Specialized Testing:
Perform additional diagnostic testing independently based on the doctor's referrals.
Relationship Management:
Maintain trusting, professional relationships with nursing home staff, patients, and families. Qualifications Basic knowledge of Optometry or a strong willingness to learn essential eye care skills. Proven experience as a back-office assistant, medical office assistant, or a relevant administrative/clinical role. Strong understanding of medical insurance verification and chart preparation processes preferred. Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and electronic health records (EHR). Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-focused attitude (especially when working with the elderly). Prior experience in a healthcare or optometry setting is highly preferred. Requirements Must be willing and able to drive to multiple facilities across Orange County, Riverside County, Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County. Must have a valid California State Driver's License, reliable transportation, and proof of current auto registration and auto insurance. Must be able to lift and transport mobile medical equipment weighing 40+ lbs on a daily basis. Physical stamina to regularly stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods during facility clinic days and at the office.
Pay:
From $18.00 per hour
