Job Description
Optical Systems Architecture Tech Lead Apply Save Job Category Chip Design Location San Jose, CA Experience More than 8 Years Work Expe. Job Description Responsible for defining, analyzing, and delivering end-to-end optical systems performance from FEC to FEC for advanced optical interconnect products. This is a highly visible, customer-facing technical leadership role with responsibility for system architecture, modeling and simulation, specification development, validation, and product bring-up. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in DSP, optical devices, coherent optics, IMDD, and forward error correction, and works effectively across analog, SerDes, PIC, reliability, and firmware teams. This role also requires hands-on lab work to validate performance, correlate simulation to measurement, and support debug.
- Own end-to-end optical link performance from FEC to FEC, including architecture, link budgets, impairments, margins, and compliance.
- Develop system-level models and simulations spanning optical, electrical, DSP, and FEC behavior across coherent and IMDD architectures.
- Define system requirements, interface definitions, and performance specifications for products, subsystems, and key building blocks.
- Lead cross-functional technical execution with analog, SerDes, PIC, reliability, firmware, packaging, and related engineering teams.
- Serve as a customer-facing technical leader in system reviews, performance discussions, and issue resolution.
- Work hands-on in the lab to support characterization, validation, correlation, debug, and product bring-up using optical and electrical test equipment.
- Mentor engineers across disciplines and contribute to systems engineering best practices. Main Requirements and Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Significant experience in optical systems engineering for high-speed communication or optical interconnect products.
- Deep expertise in end-to-end optical systems analysis from FEC to FEC.
- Strong experience in optical and electro-optical system modeling and simulation.
- Strong background in DSP, optical devices, coherent optical systems, IMDD, and forward error correction.
- Solid understanding of transmitter, receiver, analog, and SerDes interactions in high-speed optical links.
- Experience generating technical specifications, performance requirements, and design targets.
- Proven cross-functional leadership and ability to operate effectively in a highly visible, customer-facing role.
- Ability and willingness to work hands-on in the laboratory for validation, characterization, and debug. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with datacenter, AI, telecom, or other high-speed optical interconnect applications.
- Experience supporting customer technical engagements and escalations.
- Experience correlating system models to hardware measurements during development and bring-up.
Salary range:
$211,000 - $356,000 annually. Employee may be eligible for performance bonus, short and long term incentive programs. Actual total compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
