Job Title:
Ophthalmic Technician Job Description As a Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting patient care by greeting and rooming patients, verifying demographics and insurance details as applicable, and documenting the chief complaint. You will obtain and document patient medical and ocular history, verify medications, allergies, and the reason for visit in the electronic health record (EHR). Responsibilities Perform routine non-invasive ophthalmic pre-testing, including visual acuity screening, basic lensometry (if applicable), confrontation visual fields screening, color vision screening, pupillary response observation and documentation, and tonometry using non-invasive methods. Conduct practice-approved diagnostics such as OCT, fundus photography, corneal topography, and autorefractor/keratometry as trained. Prepare exam rooms, stock supplies, and maintain clinic equipment following infection control guidelines. Provide clear patient instructions before and during testing and escort patients throughout their visit. Accurately enter results and supporting documentation into the EHR and communicate findings to the provider per established workflow. Support scheduling, prior authorizations, referrals, and patient communications as needed. Participate in clinic huddles, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance patient experience and throughput. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies. Essential Skills Experience in a medical office setting for at least 6 months. Proficiency in medical and healthcare procedures. Experience in cleaning and prepping rooms. Competency in patient charting and office administration. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR). Additional Skills & Qualifications No license needed. Work Environment The work schedule depends on the location, with some offices being extremely busy while others are slower. The environment requires flexibility and adaptability to varying patient volumes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Danbury, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
