Job Title:
Ophthalmic Tech Job Description As a Ophthalmic Tech, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare facility by greeting and rooming patients, verifying their demographics and insurance details, and documenting their medical history and reason for visit. Responsibilities Greet and room patients, verify demographics and insurance details, and document the chief complaint. Obtain and document patient medical/ocular history, medications list (verification only), allergies, and reason for visit in the EHR. Perform routine non-invasive ophthalmic pre-testing, such as visual acuity screening, basic lensometry (if applicable), confrontation visual fields screening (as directed), color vision screening, pupillary response observation and documentation, and tonometry (non-invasive method/site-approved). Conduct diagnostic procedures including OCT, fundus photography, corneal topography, autorefractor/keratometry, or other practice-approved diagnostics as trained. Prepare exam rooms, stock supplies, and clean and maintain clinic equipment following infection control guidelines. Provide clear patient instructions before and during testing and escort patients through their visit. Accurately enter results and supporting documentation into the EHR and communicate findings to the provider per established workflow. Support scheduling, prior authorizations, referrals, and patient communications as needed. Participate in clinic huddles, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance patient experience and throughput. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies. Essential Skills Experience in a medical office setting for at least 6 months. Proficiency in medical and healthcare procedures. Experience in cleaning and prepping rooms. Patient charting and office administration skills. Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong communication skills to provide clear instructions to patients. Attention to detail in documenting medical information. Work Environment The work environment varies based on location. Some offices may be extremely busy, while others might be slower-paced. The schedule is dependent on the location, ensuring a dynamic and adaptable work setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
