Job Description

Description:
We are looking for a friendly, motivated eye care technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience as an ophthalmic or optometric technician, and preferably be certified to at least the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (or optometric equivalent) level. Work involves taking patient histories, performing testing, assisting in office surgeries, scheduling appointments, working with web applications (electronic medical records and a billing/scheduling system), and performing administrative tasks. Our team is composed of all varsity players. We really care about our patients and how we take care of them. Attention to detail is a must. Our work environment is friendly and supportive. We provide training initially and on a continuing basis. There is room for advancement too. If you love making a difference in the lives of patients, this may be the job for you!
Responsibilities include:
Taking patient histories and recording the results in our electronic medical record (EMR) system. Performing screening examinations (checking vision, fields, motility, tonometry etc.) and recording the results. Entering examination findings during the physician exam into the EMR (scribing). Making patient appointments. Calling in prescriptions to pharmacies and managing patient medication requests. Obtaining insurance prior authorizations for surgical procedures and medications. Assisting in office-based surgical procedures. Maintenance and cleaning of ophthalmic and optometric equipment and instruments. Performing office-based testing (visual fields, biometry, fundus photography, etc.

Genuine interest in compassionate care of our patients Observing all HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy Ability to work hours of practice Transportation available to our offices in southeast Connecticut (mostly Norwich, occasionally Groton, Danielson, and Willimantic) User level competence in working with a computer (web browsers and applications, email, keyboarding etc.) Timeliness
