Job Description
Overview Acts as a resource for COT. Supervise and instruct ophthalmology residents and technologist students. The Ophthalmic Medical Technologist participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting by: performing ophthalmic examinations, such as visual acuity, tonometry and lensometry, and performing diagnostic, technical and specialized testing, such as assessing extraocular muscle function and differentiating and measuring of ocular misalignment, placing patients in rooms, preparing patients for exams/procedures and providing patient/family support. Assures appropriate visit notes, test results prepared and are available for visit. Assisting and performing ophthalmic photography. Maintains clinic environment including supplies and equipment for specialized testing.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist:
Graduate from a CAAHEP (2 year) accredited Ophthalmic technologist Training Program and 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work. Completion of annual continuing education credits. Basic knowledge of computers. Person should display initiative, has the ability to be multitasking and be able to take on responsibilities. Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.NON-Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist:
Graduate from a CAAHEP (2 year) accredited Ophthalmic technologist Training Program and 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work. Completion of annual continuing education credits. Basic knowledge of computers. Person should display initiative, has the ability to be multitasking and be able to take on responsibilities. Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purposeNOTE:
A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position.Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist:
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist by the Joint commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Certificate in Basic Life Support.Qualifications:
