Job Description
Ophthalmic Technician Retina Consultants of Florida Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Ophthalmic Technician and become a vital part of delivering exceptional eye care! In this energetic role, you'll support ophthalmologists by performing patient assessments, assisting with diagnostic procedures, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Your expertise will help improve patients' vision and quality of life while working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values your skills and dedication. Responsibilities Conduct patient intake by gathering medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Nextech EMR and Advanced MD platforms. Measure visual acuity and intraocular pressure to assist with comprehensive eye assessments. Prepare patients for examinations by applying aseptic techniques and ensuring a clean, safe environment in compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations. Assist ophthalmologists during diagnostic tests such as tonometry, visual field testing, slit-lamp examinations, and optical coherence tomography (OCT), B scan, fundus photography, and fluorescein angiography. Maintain accurate medical records, document findings using medical terminology, and support medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic procedures. Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post-procedure care to promote optimal outcomes. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow. Assist in surgical scheduling when needed. Assist at the front desk when needed with speaking to patients and/or insurance companies on the phone and scheduling patient appointments. Experience Reliability, ability to work well with others, willingness to learn new things, and professionalism are of the utmost importance. Spanish speaking is a plus. Previous experience in ophthalmology or medical office settings is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to the eye and visual system. Familiarity with Nextech and Advanced MD or similar platforms for documentation and data entry. Experience with medical billing, coding, and insurance intake processes is a plus. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent patient care with compassion and professionalism. Knowledge of vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina is advantageous for working with diverse patient populations.
