JOB DESCRIPTION
OPTHALMIC
TECHNICIAN- CORNEA AND CATARACT EXPERIENCE JOB SUMMARY
Assist Physician with patient examination and treatment, responsible for patient histories, routine diagnostic procedures, as well as some clerical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate patient care Preliminary work-up: history, chief complaint, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil reactions, scope of vision, color vision and muscle movement. Manual refractions. Tonometry (Applanation, Tonopen).
Diagnostic testing:
Biometry, Topography, OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photos. Take dictation and document exam findings while physician is examining patient. Administer drops under physician supervision. Write out necessary prescriptions. Take and explain tests, procedures, treatments, and diagnoses to patients. Maintain and stock all exam rooms. Clean and maintain all instruments. Assist physician in minor office surgery. Return and answer patient phone calls as needed.
Requirements:
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in an ophthalmic practice. Experience in cornea and cataract clinics preferred. Minimum of two (2) years' experience performing ophthalmic procedures and diagnostic testing. Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Reliability and dependability. Strong organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office. Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
