We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our patient-focused private practice. Previous optometric or ophthalmic experience is preferred but not required—we are happy to train the right candidate. Essential Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Duties Welcome patients and provide a warm, professional experience. Perform patient workups prior to the doctor's examination. Measure and record visual acuity and other preliminary testing. Obtain and document medical history, medications, and chief complaints. Perform diagnostic testing for routine and medical eye examinations. Accurately document patient information and examination findings in the electronic medical record (EMR). Prepare patients for examinations and assist the doctor as needed. Dispense and order contact lenses while providing patient education. Maintain accurate and confidential patient records. Assist with maintaining clean, organized exam lanes and equipment. Administrative & Patient Service Duties Verify vision and medical insurance benefits. Notify patients of insurance coverage, copayments, and financial responsibilities. Schedule appointments and manage provider schedules. Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patient messages professionally and efficiently. Collect patient payments and accurately post payments in the billing system. Assist with insurance documentation and other administrative tasks. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Perform general office duties and other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Friendly, compassionate, and professional demeanor Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Comfortable learning new technology and electronic medical records (EMR) Dependable with excellent attendance and a commitment to arriving on time for every scheduled shift Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and help wherever needed Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to providing outstanding patient care Preferred Qualifications Previous optometric, ophthalmic, or medical office experience preferred but not required Customer service or patient-facing experience preferred Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) is a plus Knowledge of vision or medical insurance is helpful but not required Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required Minimum of one year of customer service or patient-facing experience preferred Paid on-the-job training Physical Requirements This position requires a variety of physical activities to perform essential job functions, including: Frequent walking and standing (up to 75%) Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (approximately 25%) Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs Frequent use of computers and office equipment requiring fine motor skills Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment Occasional climbing may be required Benefits 401(k) Employee discount Paid training Opportunities for growth and advancement
