Ophthalmic Triage Technician Savannah, GA 31405 From $19.50 an hour - Part-time, Full-time From $19.50 an hour - Part-time, Full-time The Ophthalmic Phone Triage Technician acts as the vital first line of clinical contact for patients experiencing ocular symptoms. Using advanced ophthalmic knowledge, this professional evaluates patient concerns over the phone, assesses clinical urgency, and schedules appointments according to strict medical protocols. The ideal candidate blends exceptional clinical judgment with a compassionate, reassuring telephone manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Symptom Assessment:
Conduct thorough, protocol-driven clinical assessments of patient eye complaints over the phone.
Urgency Classification:
Classify the urgency of patient conditions (emergent, urgent, routine) to ensure patient safety.
Appointment Scheduling:
Direct patients to the appropriate specialist, clinic location, or emergency room within the required timeframe.
Patient Education:
Deliver clear home-care instructions and pre-appointment guidelines to patients based on clinical protocols.
Documentation:
Record patient symptoms, medical history, and triage outcomes accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Prescription Coordination:
Process pharmacy refill requests by verifying patient charts and route them to providers for approval.
Provider Liaison:
Communicate urgent patient updates directly to on-call ophthalmologists or clinic leads.
Required Qualifications Certification:
COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) or COT (Certified Ophthalmic Technician) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on clinical experience as an ophthalmic technician.
Triage Skills:
Proven experience with ophthalmic triage protocols and emergency prioritization.
Tech Literacy:
Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and multi-line phone or call-center systems.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with strong active listening abilities. Work Environment & Physical Demands This position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer station. Requires continuous wear of a telephone headset during shift hours.

From $19.50 per hour
