Overview:
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. As an Optometric Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform various technical tasks related to eye examinations and diagnostic procedures. This position will also cross-train into the Patient Care Coordinator and Optician roles. Optometric Technician Responsibilities:
Conduct preliminary tests and screenings, including visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and visual field tests. Assist patients in preparing for eye examinations, explaining procedures, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Perform diagnostic procedures such as retinoscopy, auto-refraction, and tonometry under the supervision of an optometrist. Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available for each patient visit. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical history, test results, and treatment plans. Educate patients on proper eye care techniques, contact lens insertion and removal, and the use of ocular medications as directed by the optometrist. Administer ophthalmic medications, eye drops, and ointments as prescribed by the optometrist. Assist with contact lens fittings, including measurements, trial lens insertion, and patient instruction on lens care and hygiene. Perform basic maintenance and calibration of optometric equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability. Collaborate with other members of the eye care team, including optometrists, ophthalmologists, and administrative staff, to deliver comprehensive patient care. Adhere to all relevant legal and ethical standards, including patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations. Stay informed about advancements in optometric technology, procedures, and treatments through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
