DESCRIPTION
The Ophthalmic & Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in both clinical and surgical settings, ensuring seamless patient care from initial evaluation to surgical procedures. As the first point of contact for patients, this role requires a professional, compassionate demeanor. You will assist in ophthalmic examinations, perform diagnostic testing, and provide essential support during surgical procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Ophthalmic Duties Gather medical records and patient information utilizing an EMR (currently Modernizing Medicine). Provide exemplary patient service and education. Perform diagnostic ocular tests and measurements, such as visual field testing, OCT, topography, and tonometry. Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments and equipment. Assist the ophthalmologist and optometrist in examinations and minor in-office procedures. Greet patients, answer phones, and schedule appointments. Surgical Duties Prepare surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment before procedures. Assist the surgeon during ophthalmic surgeries by passing instruments, handling sterile supplies, and ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques. Monitor and support patients preoperatively and postoperatively. Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments. Maintain accurate surgical logs and documentation. Assist with room setup and breakdown for surgical procedures. Coordinate with surgical teams to ensure efficiency and patient safety.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Previous technician experience preferred. Previous experience in the optometry field preferred. Medical experience preferred. While we prefer candidates with experience, no previous experience is required to start your career as a technician. We are committed to building careers and welcoming new talent to the industry. You will receive hands-on training while working alongside some of the best doctors and staff in the field. Many of our own doctors began their careers as technicians! While this position is in Des Moines, training will be completed in Omaha, NE.
