Ophthalmic Technician

Lead Ophthalmic Technician Job Summary:
To perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the physician to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients' conditions. Demonstrate comprehension of the ophthalmic technician skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Provide support to clinical staff of less advanced credentials education and
Experience:
1. High School diploma; some college preferred 2. Three to five years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. 3. Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred, but experienced Ophthalmic assistants/ technicians will be considered.

Ability to work as a team member. 6. Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive work up on 3.5 patients per hour 7. Demonstrated computer literacy
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Communication & Patient Care
  • Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
  • Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: o Visual Acuity o Manual Lensometry o Confrontational Visual Fields o Stereo testing o Evaluation of Motility o Pupillary function tests o Color Plates o Applanation tonometry o Advanced Refractometry o Retinoscopy o Angle Assessment o Dilation of Pupils o Contact lens evaluations o Visual Field Testing o Optic Nerve Scanning (i.
e. OCT, HRT, GDx) o Pachymetry o Corneal Topography o A Scan and B Scan o Ophthalmic imaging including flourescein angiography o Other tasks specific to the physician needs as a result of new technologies
  • Perform duties consistent with ophthalmic writer/scribe
  • Assist physician with laser procedures.
  • Assist physician with minor surgery maintaining practice standards of sterile technique and infection control 2. Triage
  • Determine which patient should be next from the waiting room to have testing. Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection. Following testing, advise as to who will see them next and make comfortable during wait.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required.
  • Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions.
  • Communicate with reception and lead ophthalmic technician to facilitate proper patient flow. 3. Instrument Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot instruments as necessary
  • Replace bulbs
  • Check connections
  • Perform archiving functions according to manufacturer recommendations
  • Report continued difficulty to Lead Ophthalmic Technician 4. Administrative
  • Audit clinical supply levels, communicating to Lead Ophthalmic Technician which items fall below par level
  • Confirm patients' appointments by phone 2 business days ahead
  • Perform other duties as required
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
