Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our optometry team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in eye care procedures, patient interaction, and medical support functions. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting optometrist with patient examinations, performing diagnostic tests, and ensuring a smooth clinical workflow. Your expertise in ophthalmic procedures, medical records management, and patient care will contribute significantly to delivering exceptional eye care services. Responsibilities Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by preparing equipment and ensuring proper positioning. Conduct preliminary assessments including measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and performing dilation procedures. Gather and document patient history, vital signs, and current medications accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic. Maintain a sterile environment by applying aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to prevent infection. Manage patient intake processes efficiently, including verifying insurance information and updating medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Provide excellent patient care by addressing questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring comfort throughout visits. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing retail sales of optical products, and handling billing or coding as needed. Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies and optical equipment while adhering to safety standards and clinic protocols. Collaborate with the medical team to ensure accurate documentation of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology relevant to eye health. Qualifications Prior experience working in an ophthalmology or medical office setting is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic procedures, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation and scheduling. Experience with optical products sales, retail math, and inventory management is advantageous. Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Excellent communication skills for effective patient interaction and team collaboration. Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and support clinical workflows efficiently. Knowledge of medical billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services is a plus. Experience working with pediatric patients (pediatrics) is beneficial for handling diverse patient populations.
