TECHNICIAN REPORTS TO
VISION
OFFICE MANAGER JOB SUMMARY
Optometric Technician assists in providing excellent patient care, while performing a wide range of duties. Responsible to use optical equipment to properly perform the initial testing needed, while accurately recording data to prepare a patient for an exam with an optometrist. Independent to develop efficient and effective workflow patterns to create a steady pace of patients. This position must be willing to cross-train and continue education.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Assist optometrist by preparing and cleaning exam rooms, recording visual acuity, observing pupil reflexes, measuring intraocular pressure and preliminary screenings including but not limited to the use of an auto-refractor and matrix. Accurately recording medical histories including active medications. Conducting diagnostic tests including Optical Coherence Tomography, Visual Field, Fundus Photos and External Slit Lamp Photos. Teach insertion and removal of contact lenses with proper wear and care instructions. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalency. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Demonstrate initiative, function independently, and attention to detail. Must possess basic computer skills and willing to learn various computer systems. Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend instructions in English. Medical terminology knowledge encouraged. Strong interpersonal skills to provide a positive manner with a variety of people and maintain a composed and courteous demeanor. Familiarity with optometric tests preferred.
