This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Duties Greet patients and prepare them for examination. Obtain and document patient history, including chief complaints, medications, allergies, and medical/surgical history. Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and pupil responses. Perform refractometry and auto-refraction tests as needed. Administer eye drops, dilating drops, and topical anesthetics under physician guidance. Conduct specialized ophthalmic tests such as OCT, visual field testing, corneal topography, and A-scans. Assist physicians with minor in-office procedures and laser treatments. Equipment & Office Maintenance Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic instruments, including slit lamps, phoropters, and tonometers. Ensure exam rooms are stocked, clean, and organized. Follow infection control and sterilization protocols for equipment and instruments. Administrative Duties Document all findings in the electronic health record (EHR) system accurately and efficiently. Educate patients on eye conditions, treatments, and post-exam care. Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate referrals as needed. Assist in managing inventory and ordering clinical supplies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience:
Prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician preferred, but willing to train motivated candidates.
Certifications:
COA, COT, or COMT certification is a plus but not required.
Technical Skills:
Ability to perform basic ophthalmic testing and operate diagnostic equipment.
Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent communication, professionalism, and teamwork. Attention to
Detail:
Strong documentation and organizational skills. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Work Schedule:
Full-time or part-time availability Rotating between Poplar and Hazelwood locations as needed.
