Job Description

Ophthalmology Technician Job Summary The primary purpose of the Ophthalmology Technician is to perform ophthalmic procedures under the supervision of a physician and or surgeon. The Ophthalmology Technician will be responsible for assisting with patient care and maintaining appropriate documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures. Essential Job Duties 1. Obtains patient history and charts procedures for medical records. 2. Performs and records visual acuities, color vision, stereopsis test, IOP-NCT, auto refractometer readings, Snelling chart, Pachymetry, topography, visual fields, Fundus photography/angiograms, IOL Master/A-Scan/B-Scan, Lensometer. 3. Schedules surgeries, pre-ops, MRIs, CTs, Lab and appointments. 4. Orders new/replacement lenses as needed. 5. Instructs patients about contact lenses including how to handle, clean, insert and remove. 6. Handles patient questions during visits and via phone, providing advice and resolving problems in consultation with ophthalmologist. 7. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with established policies and procedures. 8. Ensure that all equipment is cleaned and sanitized at the end of each day's work. This may include but not be limited to cleaning and sanitizing examination rooms, examining lenses, wiping down exam tables, etc. 9. Maintain an organized work environment by maintaining clean exam rooms, equipment, supplies and supplies inventory; maintaining supply inventories; ensuring that all supplies are in stock or on order; ensuring that all cleaning supplies are in stock or on order; ensuring that clean-room doors are always locked at the end of each day's work; ensuring that patient charts are signed at the end of each day's visit; maintaining patient privacy; maintaining patient safety; maintaining staff safety; reporting any safety issues or concerns to the Director of Operations as required. 10. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or physician.
Required Skills & Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the phone. 2. Two years experience in an ophthalmology setting preferred. 3. Strong interpersonal skills to establish/maintain effective relationships with patients, parents, physicians and staff. 4. Strong customer service skills to be able to greet patients and answer questions they may have during their appointment time.
