Full Job Description Job Summary:
The successful Ophthalmic Medical Assistant / Technician is an essential team member of the clinic staff, delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care by supporting physicians and optometrists in both clinical and operational functions. This position is responsible for obtaining and accurately documenting detailed patient histories, performing a wide range of ophthalmic tests, and assisting in comprehensive patient evaluations. Key duties include conducting preliminary and diagnostic assessments such as visual acuity and visual field testing, auto-refraction and refraction, pupil evaluation, extraocular motility, tonometry, and eye drop instillation. The role involves preparing patients for examinations, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and ensuring accurate and timely medical record documentation. The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant / Technician is critical in supporting workflow efficiency and clinic operations, contributing to a well-organized environment and a seamless, positive patient experience. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care. Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories. Performs technical workups, patient interviews and special testing. Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc. Cooperates and communicates with all staff members and physicians about patient matters. Accurately performs routine ophthalmic diagnostic testing Maintains and cleans all equipment and lanes after being used, including sterilization of equipment. Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and restocks exam rooms Returns phone calls to patients, pharmacies. Displays consistent organization, accuracy, and attention to detail. Energetic, positive and empathetic personality. Consistently displays professionalism, congeniality and integrity to patients and coworkers. Communicates well with patients, co-workers and physicians in a manner that instills understanding, confidence and trust Excellent customer service skills, in person & over the phone, including working well with others and resolving conflict Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in individual role and in accomplishing practice goals. Maintains patient confidentiality Exhibits logical and critical thinking Proficient math skills; good with numbers Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms and ocular meds.
