Position Summary The Ophthalmic Technician works closely with the Optometrist and patient care team to provide an excellent patient experience. This role includes preparing patients for exams, performing diagnostic testing, supporting patient flow, and helping each visit feel smooth and reassuring. Patient care or customer service experience is helpful, but ophthalmic technician experience is not required. We provide hands-on training and support for someone who is dependable, curious, open to feedback, and excited to grow in healthcare. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with a Tuesday-Saturday schedule. No Sundays, late evenings, or major holiday work. Duties & Responsibilities Welcome patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism Help patients feel informed and comfortable by listening carefully, communicating concerns to the care team, and explaining next steps Conduct entrance testing and patient history, including visual acuity, confrontation fields, ocular motility, cover test, color vision, stereo vision, pupil testing, chief complaint, and medical history Perform diagnostics, including autorefractor, lensometer, Optos, OCT, and visual fields Coordinate with the Optometrist and care team to manage patient flow and support clinic efficiency Maintain accurate patient records, including health, insurance, testing, and visit information in the EMR system Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and organized workspaces Assist with contact lens training, hygiene and insertion/removal Assist with scheduling, phone calls, referrals, and co-management Support inventory, payments, claims, basic optical tasks, and other patient care or administrative tasks as assigned
Experience & Education Required:
Comfort working with patients Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to use technology accurately Willingness to learn ophthalmic testing, terminology, and office systems Collaborative attitude High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
Experience in ophthalmic, medical, hospitality, retail, or customer service settings Familiarity with medical terminology, EMR systems, or ordering platforms Familiarity with contact lens training Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Physical Requirements This role requires, with or without reasonable accommodation: Using ophthalmic equipment, computers, phones, and EMR systems Performing close visual tasks and documentation Using fine motor skills Moving throughout the office to assist patients and access equipment Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds Remaining attentive, patient, and professional in a busy clinical setting Employment & Schedule Requirements Authorization to work in the United States Ability to work in person at our practice location Availability to work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule Equal Opportunity Employer Modern Eyes is an equal opportunity employer.
