Job Description

About the Practice We are a newly established, patient-focused ophthalmology practice opening in Maryland. We're looking for a Front Desk/Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team and help deliver excellent patient care from day one. Position Summary The Front Desk/Ophthalmic technician will work directly with the physician to perform patient check-in, patient workups, pretesting, and diagnostic imaging, while ensuring a smooth, comfortable experience for patients throughout their visit.
Key Responsibilities Front desk responsibilities:
Greet patients warmly and manage front desk check-in/check-out Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries Verify insurance eligibility and benefits before appointments (mostly done by EHR) Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances Scan and upload documents, referrals, and forms into the EHR Coordinate referrals with other providers as directed Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front office Support other administrative tasks as needed (cleaning, organizing, etc...) Technician responsibilities: Perform patient history intake and chief complaint documentation Conduct visual acuity testing, refractions, and pupil exams Perform tonometry (IOP measurement) Operate diagnostic equipment, including OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing, topography, and biometry (as applicable) Assist the physician during exams, including scribing in the EHR Clean, calibrate, and maintain diagnostic equipment Assist with minor in-office procedures and surgical scheduling coordination as needed Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic Excellent patient communication and bedside manner Preferred (not required) Prior experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting strongly preferred Comfortable using diagnostic ophthalmic equipment (or willing to be trained) COA, COT, or COE certification (JCAHPO) Experience with EHR systems such as ModMed Experience assisting with cataract or other ophthalmic surgical workups We will offer training if you have never worked in the ophthalmology field before What We Offer Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and certification Hands-on training and mentorship from the physician Opportunity to help shape clinical workflows in a new practice PTO, retirement plan, CE allowance.
