Chesapeake Retina Centers is an ophthalmology practice devoted to specialized Retinal eye care. We are seeking a technician to work primarily at our Prince Frederick office. Previous eye technician and especially retinal technician experience is preferred although not necessary, as we will train the right candidate. Starting salary minimum is $18/hr with no experience up to $21/hr with retinal tech experience. Summary The technician does patient care in clinic, readying patients for the doctor and assisting the doctor in their evaluation and treatment. Some tasks don't involve direct patient care such as answering patient phone calls or sending prescriptions to pharmacies. The tech works closely with the doctors. All duties are expected to be executed accurately, efficiently, and professionally. Duties and Responsibilities 1) Workup (Main role) Take patient history, update as needed.
Workup exam:
visual acuity, tonometry, pupil check, visual field testing, etc. 2) Testing Image patients with ophthalmic equipment including OCT, fundus camera, angiography (the tech injects dye into patients' arms). 3) Tech station Ensure efficient clinic flow by supervising where and when patients go. Room patients and prepare charts/images for the doctor. Clean rooms between patients. Prepare patients for treatments. Handle doctor orders such as prescriptions, referrals to other healthcare personnel, provide handouts. Answer clinically-oriented patient phone calls. 4) Miscellaneous Be flexible with changing work conditions and demands. Work well with teammates and patients. Be professional in appearance, demeanor, and interactions with others. Show up for work on time and minimize unexcused absences from work. Do not take excessive breaks. Clean and maintain equipment and clinic. Maintain patient confidentiality. Be drug-free. May be required to travel to any of the CRC offices. May perform tasks or roles not listed (Ex. clinical study roles). Minimize looking at your phone during work. Requirements Minimum high school diploma or GED. Reliably show up to work on time. Effectively work as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task and quickly adapt to changes. Professional appearance and demeanor. Strong communication skills. Reliable transportation to work and multiple clinics. Typing well is a plus since we use electronic medical records.
