Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, adaptable, and patient-focused individual to join our ophthalmology practice in a hybrid role that combines the responsibilities of an Ophthalmic Technician, Medical Scribe, Medical Assistant, and Administrative Assistant. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients while also supporting physicians and administrative operations behind the scenes. The successful candidate will become an integral member of our clinical team, helping deliver exceptional patient care and ensuring efficient practice operations. Previous ophthalmology experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates strong communication skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and a desire to learn. Candidates must be willing and able o complete shifts in BOTH our Detroit office AND Bloomfield Hills office. Pay offered to the ideal candidate will be commensurate with training and experience. Key Responsibilities Ophthalmic Technician Duties Prepare patients for examination. Obtain and document patient histories, medications, and chief complaints. Perform preliminary testing, including visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, pupil assessment, and other diagnostic procedures as directed. Prepare examination rooms and equipment. Assist with patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations. Educate patients on testing procedures and treatment plans. Medical Scribe Duties Accurately document physician-patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR). Record findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in real time on behalf of the physician. Ensure medical documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant. Assist physicians in maintaining efficient clinic workflow. Medical Assistant Duties Assist physicians during examinations and in-office procedures. Prepare instruments, supplies, and treatment rooms. Support minor ophthalmic procedures and injections as directed. Maintain infection control and sterilization standards. Coordinate patient care and follow-up instructions. Back Office Administrative Duties Process prescription refill requests. Complete insurance prior authorizations and related documentation. Assist in the processing of all standard chart reviews, both internal and external. Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong computer and EMR documentation skills. Professional, dependable, and patient-centered approach. Preferred Experience in ophthalmology, optometry, healthcare, or medical office settings. Experience with electronic medical records.
