We focus on providing quality care and putting our patients first. With nine physicians, we specialize in vitreoretinal diseases along with sub-specialties in every field of medical and surgical retina including, pediatric retina, uveitis, and ocular oncology. We are looking for a Full Time Ophthalmic Scribe who is caring and compassionate, motivated and eager to learn, looking for a patient-centered, team-focused workplace, and wants to help make a difference in others' lives. Many of our patients have very complicated health problems that may not be limited to the eye. These patients come to us for specialized care and vision saving treatment. As an ophthalmic scribe you will play an important role in the well-being of our patients; providing them with high quality care, being a calming and knowledgeable health professional, and helping them through their eye health journey. Job Summary The Ophthalmic Scribe is a key support role that enhances physician efficiency and patient care by managing real-time clinical documentation and workflow coordination. They accurately transcribe physician findings into the patient's medical record, relay important chart information during exams, and ensure all documentation is complete and properly organized. Beyond documentation, the scribe actively supports clinic flow by guiding physicians between patients, locating needed information or supplies, and assisting with minor procedures, including setup, data recording, and equipment handling. They also help maintain patient safety, provide basic education about care, and identify potential billing or authorization issues. This role operates within the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) framework, with defined seat expectations that promote accountability, collaboration, and alignment with RSM's goals. Responsibilities Ability to function as an ophthalmic technician on an as needed basis Provide accurate transcription from physician relayed findings Have working knowledge of the appropriate place to document findings in the patient's chart Be able to relay pertinent findings from the patient's chart to the physician during the exam Be able to locate information/supplies requested by the physician in either the patient chart or in the office Assist in directing the physician to the next patient room that aligns with appropriate clinical flow Ensure patient safety when assisting them to the checkout area Understand appropriate set up for any procedure performed, as well as the ability to appropriately set up/put away any equipment used for procedures Understand appropriate ways to assist the physician in any procedures being performed Record any necessary data from procedures performed Possess the ability and knowledge to educate the patient on their care Recognize and inform the physician of any billing or authorization issues involved with the patient's care Have a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as ophthalmology abbreviations Possess the ability to type quickly and navigate the EHR system Be detail oriented Support onboarding new team members through mentoring or training as assigned. Maintain compliance with RSM policies and procedures, including departmental protocols, HIPAA privacy and security standards, and OSHA safety regulations. Actively participate in key performance indicators (KPI), key behavior indicators (KBI), and SMART Goals initiatives aligned with EOS seat expectations. Attend staff and educational meetings as required. Respond to email communications in a timely and professional manner. Demonstrate the ability to respond to changing demands while maintaining a positive and solution-oriented attitude. Minimum Education/Certification Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Must complete departmental certification as outlined by RSM's certification policy. All expenses related to required certification are covered by RSM through its educational funding program. Minimum Background Requirements Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience within medical practice, preferably in ophthalmology. Prior experience in ophthalmology preferred. Physical Demands Mobility & Physical Activity Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to push patients in wheelchairs and assist with mobility needs. Dexterity & Computer Use Ability to view and type computer data efficiently. Ability to communicate effectively via telephone and electronic systems.
