JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Ophthalmology Technician to join our ophthalmology practice. This individual will help to maintain efficiency and ensure a high level of comprehensive care is provided to the patient. Technicians prepare patients for vision examinations and testing using specialized diagnostic instruments/equipment, obtains and records patient's preliminary medical history while maintaining a timely clinic flow. Due to the multi-faceted responsibilities, the technician may be expected to possess qualities such as a genuine compassion for others, critical thinking and capacity to make informed decisions, strong organizational skills, extraordinary communication skills and outstanding attention to detail. Must be proficient in verbal and written English. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced clinical environment and a strong commitment to patient care. Duties would include, but would not be limited to:
  • Prepares patients chart prior to visit
  • Perform comprehensive patient workups, including visual acuity, refractions, tonometry, and dilation
  • Ensures examination room(s) and equipment are clean and ready for patient/physician
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures
  • Updates physician on schedule changes, emergency add-ins, and address in-basket items
  • When applicable, assists the patient to the diagnostic and examination area(s)
  • Documentation of the patient's chief complaint and medical history in the electronic medical record
  • Medical testing may include visual acuity, intraocular pressure, ocular motility, lensometry, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, tonometry, and other testing upon request from the attending physician
  • Specialized testing may include visual field, OCT, IOL Master, Orbscan, Zywave, Phoropters, Retinoscopes, immersion scans, Vario, refracting, fundus photography
  • Administering topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of the physician
  • Becomes fluent in the exact requirements of their physician
  • Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Retina experience is preferred.
  • Fluorescein angiogram experience preferred.
  • Certified through an accredited Ophthalmic program or equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology & accepted abbreviations
  • Experience in ophthalmology and EMR, preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, spelling and attention to detail
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and patient-centered communication
SCHEDULE
  • 35-40 hours per week
  • Some Saturdays required
