This position will involve working between our Plymouth and Golden Valley locations. About the
Role:
Working under the guidance of the Ophthalmic Technical Supervisor, you will apply your technical expertise to support precise diagnoses and exceptional patient care. As a key member of a collaborative team, you will perform duties aligned with JCAHPO standards while mentoring and supporting clinical staff with less advanced credentials. In this role, you will prioritize patient care and ensure patients feel informed and comfortable throughout their visit. You will collect patient histories, conduct diagnostic assessments, and perform ophthalmic testing with accuracy. Additionally, you will educate patients about eye care, medications, and post-operative instructions, triage inquiries efficiently, and maintain well-organized records and workspaces. Other responsibilities may include processing prior authorizations and additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
Technical knowledge and understanding of ocular anatomy and physiology, familiarity with common eye disorders, diseases and their treatments. Knowledge of ophthalmic instruments and equipment operation. Knowledge of industry regulations, compliance standards, clinical procedures and processes. Knowledge of advanced optics and calculations necessary for troubleshooting atypical patient presentation and surgical calculations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Personable and empathetic to patient's needs and concerns. Effective time-management and productivity, well-organized and detail oriented. Professional appearance and work ethics. Interdependent and supportive team player. Proficient in using relevant computer software and applications. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Must pass a background study. Have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and/or reliable transportation to use for work driving purposes.
Required Education:
High School Diploma or GED Preferred Education and Experience:
JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) certification. Current certificate in basic CPR.
Physical Requirements:
Must be comfortable working in close proximity to others on a continuous basis. Able to stand and/or walk for 50% to 75% of the workday. Can sit for up to 50% of the time. Capable of regularly lifting up to 10 pounds.
