Adoption Assistance Plan Qualifications:
Completion of ophthalmic technician training program or a minimum of two years clinical ophthalmologic experience, preferred Current Certification of Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certification of Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) preferred; new employees will be given one year from date of hire to obtain COA, CPOT, COT, or COMT certification; employees must maintain current COA, CPOT, COT, or COMT certification; certifications obtained through Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) Current BLS certification Ophthalmic Surgical Tech Qualifications (OR only): In addition to the above requirements: Completion of an IJCAHPO-approved Ophthalmic Surgical Assisting course or equivalent training or graduate of an accredited surgical technologist Current certification of Ophthalmic Surgical Assisting or Certified Surgical Technician Documented experience in assisting with ophthalmic surgeries Completion of surgical tech competencies
Job Responsibilities:
Performs objective and subjective ophthalmic testing including visual fields, A-scans, keratometry, lensometry, fundus photography, tonometry, contact lens fitting, and refractometry. Assists with ordering contact lens and education to patients. Maintains proficiency with software products. Seeks out and attends educational opportunities as credits for certification and to enhance ophthalmology knowledge and skills. Assists with training new staff. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in time management and task completion. Demonstrates accountability in documentation and charging for services. Other duties as assigned by management. Assists physicians with surgical procedures in office and same-day-surgery at the hospital. Other duties as assigned.
Ophthalmic Surgical Tech Job Responsibilities:
Sets up sterile instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the surgical procedure. Assists ophthalmologists in surgeries Performs initial counts procedure with the RN circulator. Assists team members with gowning and gloving. Assists with draping and establishing of sterile field. Actively participates in surgical timeout. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions on the sterile field. Holds retractors as directed by the surgeon. Applies suction and sponges to the operative site as needed. Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon. Prepares sterile dressings. Prepares and passes off specimens. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Assists other members of the team with room turnover. Lifting, pushing, and pulling instruments and pans throughout the sterilization process. Performs repetitive motions throughout shift. May assist RN circulator (e.g. obtaining additional instruments, supplies, and equipment) if necessary. Other duties as assigned.
