Job Description

Glaucoma & Cataract Surgical Coordinator (Travel Required) Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Glaucoma & Cataract Surgical Coordinator to join our ophthalmology team. This position is ideal for a candidate with ophthalmic clinical knowledge, surgical counseling experience, and exceptional patient service skills. The Surgical Coordinator will educate patients regarding cataract and glaucoma procedures, coordinate all aspects of surgical scheduling, and ensure patients are fully prepared throughout the surgical process. This role requires travel between our main office and satellite clinic locations. Essential Responsibilities Patient Education & Surgical Counseling Educate and counsel patients regarding recommended cataract and glaucoma procedures, including: Cataract Surgery Premium Intraocular Lens (IOL) options Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) Glaucoma tube shunts and laser procedures Discuss surgical benefits, risks, alternatives, and expected outcomes. Review premium lens and elective upgrade options, including associated costs. Complete informed consent documentation and ensure patient understanding. Surgical Coordination & Scheduling Schedule office-based, ambulatory surgery center, and hospital procedures. Coordinate surgery dates, postoperative appointments, and physician schedules. Enter surgical information and documentation into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Submit required documentation to surgical facilities and referring providers. Respond promptly to scheduling changes, cancellations, and patient inquiries. Insurance & Preoperative Coordination Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and physician participation. Obtain prior authorizations when required. Ensure all medical clearances, diagnostic testing, and preoperative requirements are completed. Conduct pre-counseling and preoperative phone calls to prepare patients for surgical evaluations and procedures. Clinical Support Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing related to cataract and glaucoma evaluations, including: IOL Master A-Scan B-Scan Pentacam Visual Field Testing OCT Imaging Review postoperative instructions and coordinate follow-up care. Travel Requirements Travel regularly between satellite clinics and office locations as needed. Maintain flexibility to support providers and patients across multiple locations.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, Surgical Coordinator, or Surgical Counselor. Knowledge of cataract and glaucoma procedures and terminology. Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between clinic locations.
Preferred:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher certification. Experience with EMR systems and ophthalmology practice management software. Prior experience coordinating cataract and glaucoma surgeries.
