Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric Technician/Medical Assistant, where your energy and dedication will directly enhance patient care and streamline clinic operations. In this vital role, you will assist with patient intake, perform preliminary eye assessments, and support the clinical team with a variety of medical and administrative tasks. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will ensure a smooth, efficient experience for every patient while maintaining the highest standards of safety and confidentiality. Duties Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and complete intake forms while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Prepare exam rooms using aseptic techniques, sterilize equipment, and maintain a clean environment to uphold infection control standards. Assist the ophthalmologist or optometrist during eye examinations by performing preliminary tests like visual acuity assessments and autorefractor measurements. Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms for accurate documentation of patient information, clinical notes, and billing codes. Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, processing payments, handling patient inquiries, and managing medical records efficiently. Collaborate with the team on optical sales by providing product knowledge and assisting patients in selecting eyewear that fits their needs and preferences. Skills Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to ophthalmology and pediatrics to support accurate patient assessments. Experience with EMR systems like Uprise or other healthcare software for documentation and billing processes. Excellent patient care skills with a friendly demeanor that puts patients at ease during their visit. Ability to perform intake procedures accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times. Knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure infection control during clinical procedures. Basic understanding of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmology services.
