Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients' conditions.RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication and Patient Care Acquaints new patients with office procedures to which they will be exposed. Informs patients of purpose of tests the technician is performing, and how the patient will be affected during the tests. Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications, Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks as ordered by the physician. Provides fundus, exterior and anterior segment photographs, including FA's. A-scans (all methods) and Manual Keratometry Assists physicians with injections, maintaining sterile technique. Assists physician with minor surgery, maintaining practice standards of sterile technique and infection control. Assists physician with laser procedures. Monitors patient flow, ensuring the physician exam rooms are always full. Other tasks specific to the physician's needs as a result of new technologies. Travels to satellite clinics as needed Instrument Maintenance Troubleshoots instruments as necessary. Replaces bulbs. Checks connections. Performs archiving functions according to manufacturer recommendations. Performs maintenance of instrument sterility.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent Two years experience in a healthcare setting; ophthalmology preferredESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Provides quality patient care for all patients, directly or indirectly Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology Strong communication and interpersonal skills Empathetic personality with concern for patient's needs Strong organization with attention to detail Ability to work in a team and be a positive team member Demonstrated computer literacy Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive work ups on three patients per hourPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to walk and stand for eight hours. Ability to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting Ability to hear softly spoken words. Ability to assist wheelchair-bound patients.
