OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN EMPLOYMENT

POSITION SUMMARY
An Optometric Technician is highly motivated and detail oriented. The technician is primarily responsible for assisting optometrists in preparing patients for their appointments. This can include taking medical/ocular histories, performing standard entrance tests, and making ready any expected device. Optometric technicians assist patient education, and explain treatment plans the doctors have established.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide patients with exceptional customer service by understanding and assisting their needs. Greet each patient with a caring and friendly attitude.
  • Use clear, effective, and professional communication—break down technical terms for customers to easily understand.
  • Prepare patients for examination by obtaining ocular/medical history, performing standard entrance test, and accurately entering information into the electronic medical record.
  • Perform specialized ophthalmic tests as ordered by the optometrists, including: visual field evaluations and advanced diagnostic imaging such as digital ocular imaging.
  • Prepare exam rooms by disinfecting, calibrating, and repositioning equipment.
  • Create and maintain patient files, following company HIPAA policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Help maintain the attractive appearance of the office.
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings.
  • Participate in training opportunities provided by Harbor Eyecare Center.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrate success in a medical, retail office environment addressing a broad spectrum of customer requirements and preferences.
  • High level of proficiency with technology. Demonstrate experience by accurately and thoroughly completing electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrate effective typing skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish a positive rapport and build relationships to establish customer-trends.
  • Display strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Possess the ability to multitask, set priorities, and ensure that patient commitments/deadlines are met.
  • Be an energetic, positive team player who's able to adapt in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
  • Proficiency in the utilization of automated equipment and systems standard to the eye care industry.
  • Collaborate with your team to form best practices for sales and customer service that can be implemented throughout the organization
  • Represent our brand to help educate others and get them excited about our values and mission.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.
  • Manual dexterity to adjust medical equipment and eyeglasses.
  • Ability to assist wheelchair-bound patients.
SCHEDULE
  • Full-time, including Saturdays 8:00 AM- 1:00 PM.
EDUCATION
  • High School or equivalent (Required)
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Medical Assistant coursework or certification appreciated but not required.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1+ year Optical Experience (Not required)
  • 1+ year Medical Office Experience (Not required but preferred)
  • 1+ year Customer Service Experience (Preferred)
