Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Scribe, where you'll play a vital role in delivering exceptional eye care experiences. This energetic position combines patient interaction, clinical support, and detailed documentation to ensure smooth clinic operations. You'll work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide compassionate patient care while efficiently managing medical records and administrative tasks. Duties Assist patients during their eye exams by taking vital signs, documenting medical histories, and preparing them for examinations Perform intake procedures, including collecting patient information and updating medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Nex Tech or similar platforms Support clinical staff with aseptic techniques during procedures to maintain a sterile environment Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and other optical assessments using specialized equipment with precision and care Document exam findings accurately as a scribe during ophthalmology consultations to ensure comprehensive medical records Manage front desk responsibilities including appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out, and verifying insurance details while maintaining HIPAA compliance Assist with optical services such as lens measurements, frame adjustments, and retail sales of eyewear products while applying retail math principles Scribe Requirements Ability to type a minimum of 60 WPM with high accuracy to keep pace with real-time physician documentation Strong command of ophthalmic and general medical terminology to accurately transcribe clinical findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans Proficiency in EHR/EMR platforms (e.g. NexTech) for live entry of patient encounter notes Exceptional listening skills and attention to detail to capture precise, complete documentation without interrupting clinical workflow Ability to remain focused and organized in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment Understanding of ophthalmology-specific procedures, diagnoses (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration), and clinical abbreviations Commitment to confidentiality and strict adherence to HIPAA regulations when handling sensitive patient information Prior medical scribing experience or completion of a scribe training/certification program is preferred Experience Prior experience in a medical office setting, especially within ophthalmology or optometry clinics, is highly preferred Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to the eye, and physiology enhances your ability to support clinical workflows effectively Familiarity with EMR systems like NexTech or other electronic health record platforms is essential for accurate documentation Experience with medical billing and coding processes ensures smooth administrative operations Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times Background in retail sales or customer service helps deliver excellent patient interactions and eyewear sales experiences Clinic experience working with pediatric populations (pediatrics) is a plus for engaging younger patients effectively This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical skills while contributing to outstanding patient care.
