Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician to join our dynamic eye care team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ophthalmology, patient care, and medical office procedures, with a passion for improving vision health. In this role, you will support ophthalmologists by performing clinical tasks, assisting with patient intake, and managing medical records, all while ensuring a compassionate and efficient patient experience. Duties Conduct patient intake by collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records using EMR systems such as Epic. Measure vital signs and perform basic ophthalmic assessments, including visual acuity tests and intraocular pressure measurements. Assist with ocular examinations by preparing patients and equipment, maintaining aseptic technique to prevent infection. Support ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are ready. Maintain accurate medical records, document clinical findings, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality. Educate patients on eye health, medication instructions, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and adherence. Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, processing payments, and handling retail sales of eyewear or accessories. Utilize clinic management software such as Epic for documentation, billing, coding, and appointment management to streamline workflow. Requirements Prior experience in ophthalmology or medical office settings is highly preferred; familiarity with optical experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmic care. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic along with general medical records management skills. Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics. Knowledge of medical billing and coding practices for accurate insurance claims processing. Ability to perform clinical tasks such as vital signs measurement, intake procedures, and maintaining aseptic technique efficiently. Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills for managing eyewear sales transactions is advantageous. $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
