Duties Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking detailed histories and conducting preliminary assessments such as measuring vital signs and documenting medical history. Assist ophthalmologists during exams by performing tests like visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Manage patient intake processes efficiently, including verifying insurance information, updating medical records, and explaining procedures clearly. Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic to document clinical findings accurately and update patient charts promptly. Support clinical operations by maintaining aseptic techniques during procedures, sterilizing equipment, and managing medical supplies. Engage with patients empathetically, providing education about eye health, treatment plans, and post-examination instructions. Requirements Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred; strong clinic experience is a plus. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to ophthalmology and pediatrics. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation purposes. Demonstrated ability to perform intake procedures, take vital signs, and apply aseptic techniques confidently. Excellent patient care skills with a positive attitude and strong communication abilities. Basic retail math skills for managing retail sales of optical products when applicable. Understanding of HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy is maintained at all times.
