$24.04 - $32.54 The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To assist the Ophthalmologists in providing extended technical services to patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
) 1. Escort patients to the exam room, take basic histories and make chart documentation, perform visual acuities (auto and manual), review patient medications, measure glasses, and conduct lensometry.
  • 2. Perform ophthalmic procedures such as refractometry, tonometry, pupil/angle evaluation, muscle/strabismus screening, keratometry, topography, and pachymetry.
  • 3.
Perform various ophthalmic tests including:
visual field testing, color vision testing, stereopsis, amsler grid testing. 4.
Clean and maintain equipment:
projectors, slit lamps, visual field, topographer, auto refractor, tonometer, lensometer.
  • 5. Order appropriate ophthalmic supplies, drops, surgery equipment, and medications using proper ordering procedure. Maintain inventory and stock supplies. 6. Perform pre and post cataract surgery exams. Have basic understanding and knowledge of procedure to answer patient questions.
  • 7. Perform pre and post Lasik work up exams. Have basic understanding and knowledge of procedure to answer patient questions.
  • 8. Perform in-office surgery assistance including surgery prep, cleaning and sterilization of instruments (autoclave), and deliver specimens to the lab.
  • 9. Instruct patients in use of contact lenses when necessary. 10. Work with insurance companies for pharmaceutical prior-authorizations. 11. Verify and Re-write glasses and contact lens prescriptions for optical shops.
  • 12. Will be required to travel between locations.
  • 13.
When coverage is needed:
perform registration receptionist duties, such as checking in patients, answering phones, scheduling, and maintaining flow of internal and external mail.
  • 14. Participate as an active team member in a patient-centered medical home. 15. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business.
  • 16. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, customers and vendors.
  • 17. Abide by company policies.
  • 18. Other duties as assigned. 19. Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED Current BLS certification
PREFERENCES
Previous Ophthalmology experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to work in high volume, multi-tasked work environment Computer experience preferred Successful experience in high-volume customer service setting preferred Certification or degree from an accredited school
