Job Description

Optometric Lab Technician Full‑Service Optical Laboratory | Full‑Time About the Role We are seeking a detail‑oriented Optometric Lab Technician to join our full‑service optical laboratory. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with modern finishing equipment—specifically the Mr. Blue edging system —and is committed to producing high‑quality eyewear with precision and efficiency. This role supports our clinical and retail teams by ensuring every pair of glasses meets exact prescription and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Operate and maintain the Mr. Blue edging system , including tracing, blocking, edging, calibration, and basic troubleshooting. Fabricate and finish lenses for a wide range of frame styles, including metal, acetate, rimless, and drill‑mount designs. Utilize additional lab equipment such as lens blockers, patternless edgers, tinting units, lensometers, and hand tools. Verify prescription accuracy using lensometry and ensure all eyewear meets ANSI and internal quality standards. Perform routine equipment maintenance and report service needs promptly. Manage daily job flow to meet production timelines and support clinic operations. Maintain inventory of lenses, frames, and consumables; assist with ordering and restocking. Follow all lab safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Uphold HIPAA and confidentiality standards. Qualifications Experience in an optical lab or similar technical environment preferred. Proficiency with the Mr. Blue edging system or willingness to complete training. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with precision equipment. Ability to read and interpret optical prescriptions accurately. Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and time management. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity for handling small components. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed. Preferred Skills Experience with rimless/drill‑mount fabrication. Familiarity with additional edging systems (Santinelli, Briot, Optronics, etc.). Knowledge of lens materials, coatings, and optical standards.
