Job Description

Job Summary:
The triage and medical information technician is responsible for the overall success of the patient communication function. This individual provides good judgement in the coordination of all practice activities that contribute to the successful performance of this role.
Physical Qualifications:
Requires prolonged sitting, periods of standing, some bending, stooping lifting and stretching, hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate a keyboard, mouse, touchscreen computers, manual controls of ancillary testing equipment, and surgical/procedural instruments. Requires normal range of eye sight, hearing and aptitude to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate information.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge of basic policies and procedures or functions of a multi-physician practice. Knowledge of HIPAA, Compliance, and OSHA regulations related to an outpatient practice. Knowledge of EMR, and practice management computer programs, scanners, printers and applications. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion, and decision-making to optimally achieve the goals of the position. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, physicians, leadership staff, patients, and the public. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively to meet the set goals, deadlines and objectives of the position. This includes charting/documenting appropriately, being able to empathetically relate to patient complaints, calm their concerns and provide accurate information necessary to satisfy their needs. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, which includes but is not limited to drafting dictation, completing FMLA and disability forms based on patient needs and physician directions and filling, authorizing and refilling prescriptions. Job Qualifications 1. High School Diploma or Bachelor's Degree 2. Previous experience in a medical group practice environment required 3. Experience in clinical ophthalmology required 4. Understanding of medical terminology is required 5. Bilingual required Performance Expectations Triage all clinical patient calls, addressing issues of a non-urgent nature. Uses discretion when answering or resolving patient issue or passing on to the physician. Performs routine standing order patient prescription refills and utilizing E-prescribe computerized prescribing). Coordinates patient appointments when patient issues warrant an office visit with the physician. Must be able to utilize computer practice management system for scheduling. Takes accurate, thorough messages to pass on to physicians and/or technicians when necessary thru EHR system (Nextech). Returns patient calls as soon as possible, preferrably within 1 hour. Unpacking, labeling, storing drugs/medications appropriately and in a timely manner. Reviews and completes all patient disability forms, FMLA forms, prescription drug savings cards prior to authorizations and legally blind statements. Coordinate DNA testing. Thoroughly documents all patient conversations, issues, resolutions and actions taken in the EHR (Nextech) system. Keeps stock of medical supplies by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt of orders placed Utilizes patient chart on an as needed basis, accessing only information related to treatment, payment, and health operations. Adheres to the company's HIPAA, OSHA and Compliance policies. Other duties as assigned. This is a full time, on site position. This position is not remote.
