Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support ophthalmologists in providing exceptional patient care, manage clinical and administrative duties, and ensure smooth clinic operations. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in ophthalmology, medical office procedures, and patient interaction within a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities Assist with patient intake, including gathering medical history and verifying insurance information Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort Perform basic ophthalmic testing, including visual acuity assessments and intraocular pressure measurements, refractions, diagnostic testing Maintain aseptic techniques to ensure infection control during examinations and procedures Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems to document patient information accurately Support ophthalmologists during exams Manage medical records with confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations Maintain cleanliness of clinical areas following infection control protocols Skills Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmology principles Experience with medical office operations, including EMR/EHR systems Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality Ability to perform basic ophthalmic testing accurately Knowledge of aseptic techniques to prevent infection during clinical procedures Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and front desk interactions Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail Prior clinic experience in general medical settings is a plus Understanding of medical billing and coding processes is beneficial but not required This position is ideal for motivated individuals seeking growth within the ophthalmology field while making a positive impact on patient care.
