About the Position As an Optometric Assistant, you will play an instrumental role in helping patients at our specialty vision practice. Our cherished optometric technician will support our developmental optometrist, Dr. Jesse Willingham, by performing preliminary testing, operating diagnostic equipment to measure visual skills, managing patient flow, and assisting with administrative tasks as needed. They will also assist our doctor with vision therapy. During optometric vision therapy, you and our doctor will apply state-of-the-art technology and procedures, making treatment enjoyable and productive for our patients. You will learn how to use our approach that incorporates coordinated movement, balance, auditory processing, and cognitive abilities. Your Responsibilities:
As an Optometric Assistant, your responsibilities include: Providing energetic, warm, and caring interactions with patients and their families Adhering to and embodying the Brighter Outlook Vision patient service standards Maintaining a safe and secure workspace Keeping a clean and orderly office environment Assisting the doctor, administrative team, and fellow therapists to ensure efficiency and productivity What is Developmental Optometry? Developmental optometry, behavioral optometry, or vision therapy, is a rehabilitative program, prescribed to treat developmental and/or neurologically induced dysfunctions of the visual system. The American Optometric Association defines vision development as a sequence of neurosensory and neuromuscular activities individually prescribed and monitored by a doctor to develop, rehabilitate, and enhance visual skills and processing. Vision development is for children, teens, and adults presenting with vision conditions such as convergence insufficiency, double vision, amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), post-concussion vision syndrome, or other vision and learning problems. We also provide vision treatment for developmentally delayed individuals or individuals on the autism spectrum, to improve their daily living and learning abilities.

We train all of our staff to meet our high level of treatment standards. We are looking for individuals who are willing to learn how to help people of all ages; however, most of our patients are children and teens.

Are devoted to continued education and interest in visual development Are able to build a one-on-one rapport with patients Have excellent people skills Possess a patient-focused mindset with a friendly and outgoing personality Are able to work in a team environment with oversight from doctors and teammates Have a basic knowledge of computer software (e.g. updating and maintaining tracking spreadsheets) on Mac and Dell computers and iPads We are looking for candidates who are available Monday through Thursday from 9:15am-6:15pm, year-round.
