Ophthalmic Technician Compensation:

This position not only requires someone with a friendly and welcoming personality, but a special person that takes pride in providing excellent patient care! Job Tasks included but not limited to:
- Initiate documentation of the patients chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
- Perform testing to include visual acuity measurement, lensometry, keratometry, perform refractions, tonometry, and eager to learn additional testing and thirsty for knowledge in ophthalomolgy.
- Maintain professional attitude.
- Ability to multi-task is a must.
- Spelling/Typing must be proficient.
- Scribe for the physician .
- Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of physician.
- Remove and apply dressings as directed.
- Educate patients regarding administration of medications, and pre
- and post-operative instructions as directed by physician.
- Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician with full documentation in patient chart.
- Assist with minor surgery procedures or laser treatments in the office.
- Perform specialized testing such as automated and non-automated perimetry, ocular motility testing, OCT, Lenstar, (A-scan and B-scan), and ophthalmic photography.
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected in an appropriate manner, battery powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.
- Follow all safety procedures as per protocol guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned under guidance of supervisor.
- Make adjustments,with manager approval,to keep patient flow moving and the day running on schedule.
- Communicate to patients clearly and effectively.
- Be an active participant in improving efficiency with day to day operations. Job Requirements Knowledge, skills, and experience :
- High school diploma. (GED accepted)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat and professional appearance.
- Two years of specialized ophthalmic experience or graduate of a formal training program preferred, but will train the "RIGHT" individual.
- Bi-lingual a definite plus and compensated. Degree of supervision (i.e., direct, indirect), independence and discretion:
- Position requires a great deal of initiative and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Employee must maintain patient confidentiality.
- Employee must report to work on time whether in home office or satellite.
- Given the level of training and experience required in this position, the employee will be expected to work well independently and efficiently. Physical demands and/or other special requirements :
- Full-time Monday through Thursday 7:30-5:30, Friday 7:30-2:30 (some time variations depending on patient needs)
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. Some lifting required (example: items needed for satellite offices, assist in lifting patients from wheel chairs to examination chairs.) May be required to stand for long periods of time. Good hearing and visual acuity are required.

TRAVEL:
Required to surrounding Austin areas approximately 9 times a month. These 9 times will be in ½ day increments.
